DALLAS RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK: WHEELHOUSE
The Design District area in Dallas is the perfect place to live for anyone who is young and in their 20s-30s. Yes, I am biased because I live there and with the view of the Dallas skyline from my balcony and the quick access to the freeway to anywhere in Dallas, my roommate and I felt like we got the jackpot. The one thing about this area though is the paucity of restaurants – probably why the prices for housing in the area is cheaper too than some areas of Dallas.
But if I need a quick bite, then fortunately there does exist some excellent choices in Design District. One of them is Wheelhouse which is excellent for late night dining. Wheelhouse advertises themselves as the modern take on the gastropub. Not really sure I understand what that particularly means but it meets the definition of gastropub – a drinking establishment with a high quality restaurant attached to it.
What to Order:
- Ahi Tuna Nachos – with charred edamame, cucumber, yuzu, and cilantro jalapeno aioli
- Mussels and Fries – these mussels are bathed in a green curry sauce with coconut milk, thai basil, and sweet chile aioli. I’m a sucker for Mussels drenched in any sauce. Thus my eye was immediately drawn to this dish on the menu. I’ve never seen a place do it with green curry and I give Wheelhouse points for executing it well!
